Saturday 10th February saw the 5th and final league match of the Results Base Chiltern Cross Country League for 2017/18 held at Campbell Park Milton Keynes. 31 of SNHAC athletes competed in their respective age groups. [read more]

Six of the Best!

Stevenage and North Herts athletes in action over the weekend collected the reward for hard winter training - recording eighteen personal best performances between them along with six gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the Eastern Athletics Indoor Championships at the Lee Valley Athletic Centre. Regional Grading Competition

On Sunday Richard’s Trampoline Club attended the Eastern regional Grading competition in Cambridge. This was the first competition of the year, after the Christmas break. The club had a team of 6 performers, with some trying to qualify for the semi-finals next month and one competing for the first time. [read more]

Watford Half Bronze

Eleven Spartans tackled the Watford hills for a chilly half marathon. They came back with a bronze medal and a new personal best. [read more]

Serpie Spartans

Owing to an emergency diversion Friday’s Serpentine 5K was slightly long but Fairlands Valley Spartan DAVID BOWKER ran an excellent 21 minutes 8 seconds for a 75% score. MADDIE PRITCHARD was not far behind with 21:24. JIM BROWN was second in his category with 24:49. The race round London’s Hyde Park was in cool, dry but breezy conditions. [read more]

Brian a Winner

The Fred Hughes 10 was run in ideal weather conditions for penguins but BRIAN WHITE finished first 60 plus and 102nd overall in 67 minutes 45 seconds. He was five minutes ahead of his nearest rival. [read more]

Watford Take 2

After only a week Fairlands Valley Spartans returned to Cassiobury Park, Watford for a cross country race. Seven days ago it was separate men’s and women’s races for the senior county championships, this time it was all in together over about 9.5 kilometres for a Sunday Cross Country league event. Welcome to the January edition of the HertsYOPA18 newsletter

Hertfordshire's Year of Physical Activity, also known as HertsYOPA18, runs from 1 January to 31 December 2018.

It is a year to focus on getting Hertfordshire moving and celebrate what the county has to offer to help our residents lead healthy lives!

Led by the Hertfordshire Sports and Physical Activity Partnership (HSP), Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) and Hertfordshire Association of Cultural Officers (HACO), and supported by the ten district councils along with many other organisations, everyone is encouraged to get involved.[read more]

Spartan Catchup

Fairlands Valley Spartans finished two complete and counting teams at the Hertfordshire Cross Country Championships. A great achievement in such a competitive event. [read more]

YUKO GORDON won her category by a mile in the Buntingford Year End 10 on New Year’s Eve. In fact it was by a lot more than a mile as she was 14 minutes ahead of her nearest competitor. She was first female veteran, 65 plus with an amazing 1 hour 14 minutes 1 second. [read more]

Many Spartans got into Christmas with Saturday’s Santa Canta at Letchworth on Saturday, a very festive occasion with lots of great costumes. The 5K run was around Norton Common. [read more]

They rode a Blazing Saddle!

SOPHIA MORRIS, PENNY SCHENKEL and ALAN BAXTER will be riding the Blazing Saddles into 2018 as they were the main prize winners at the Cycling UK Stevenage group’s presentations and Christmas lunch on Sunday. Despite the heavy snow nearly everyone made it to the King George lV in Baldock for the 1230 start.[read more]

Festive Freeze

Many Spartans were looking forward to getting a five mile time on the list with the Festive Five at Welwyn Garden City but it was cancelled due to heavy snowfall. However with the rest of Fairlands Valley Spartans in the cold CAROL PAUL ran the Lanzarote marathon on Sunday in 4 hours 37 minutes 21 seconds in hot conditions with the occasional breeze. The Twelve Rides Of Christmas

Who has won the Blazing Saddle? This Sunday (10th December) dozens of members of the Cycling UK group in Stevenage will leave Costello’s Café at 10a.m. to cycle to their Christmas lunch and Blazing Saddles presentations in Baldock.[read more]

Half a Ton of Spartans

A fabulous fifty Spartans enjoyed a two lap course over the fields and stony paths of Trent Park, near Cockfosters, in the second race of this season’s cross country league. That’s five more from Fairlands compared with the first race and it showed in the results. [read more]

Saturday 11th November saw the 2nd round of the Results Base Chiltern Cross Country League for 2017/18 held at Teardrop Lakes in Milton Keynes. Big Apple Qualifier

Well done STUART HAYCROFT. He travelled to New York to attempt to qualify for a London good for age spot. Despite struggling with jet lag, Stuart managed to cut just over 40 minutes off his marathon personal best (PB) with a time of 3:14:03, thereby achieving qualification. Crowd support was amazing, they mean it when they say there are over a million spectators. You run through all 5 boroughs and each one has such a unique feel. [read more]

Over 300 Celebrate Cycling

More than three hundred cyclists celebrated the End of Summertime with “Emitremmus Desrever” Cycling UK’s challenge ride from Stevenage.[read more]

Cheshunt Cross

45 Fairlands Valley Spartans answered the club’s call to compete in the first Cross Country League race of the season. On a bright sunny morning the 17 women and 28 men raced round a parkland style course in Cheshunt. [read more]

Callum's a Winner!

On Sunday Richard’s Trampoline Club attended the Eastern regional Grading competition in Cambridge. This was the first competition of the year using the new routines, and the first Grading competition for most of our competitors. The club had a team of 5 performers. [read more]

Hundreds Race around!

Fairlands Valley Spartans organised the Stevenage Half Marathon and it was a tremendous community event with nearly 500 people running round the town, dozens of Spartans volunteering to make the event a success, a local Spartan winner, hundreds of spectators around the course and still 29 members of the club racing and doing well. CATHY CRAIG celebrated her 65th birthday in style by running the Lisbon Marathon with her daughter Hazel in temperatures that peaked at 35 degrees Celsius! Cathy was fourth in her age category completing in 5 hours 38 minutes 22 seconds. [read more]

After months of hard-work, Richard’s Trampoline Club have been awarded a grant from Sport England for a brand new Ultimate Trampoline. To celebrate this fantastic achievement the Club held their first Club Championships utilising the new Ultimate Trampoline. For many members, this was their first experience of a Trampoline Competition. [read more]

5 Double-Mini Trampoline gymnasts from Marriotts Gymnastics Club competed at the 2017 Trampoline, Tumbling and Double-Mini Trampoline British Championships, held at Liverpool’s Echo Arena, this weekend (23rd and 24th September). [read more]

Lead bike will be a key role at the Stevenage Half Marathon and Kiwi PENNY SCHENKEL will be on the front for the whole 13.1 miles. [read more]

Seventeen Spartans raced around Peterborough in the Perkins Great Eastern Run half marathon and many achieved new personal bests, hit new targets, got under two hours for the first time and were running 13.1 miles for the first time. [read more]

Spartan Army

A massive 49 from Fairlands Valley Spartans raced round the Standalone 10K race at Letchworth on Sunday. The fastest was KEITH COUGHLIN, 17th out of the 1,354 finishers in 37 minutes 33 seconds. CHRIS TILLBROOK cut his personal best (PB) by a significant 1 minute 32 seconds to come in 45th with 39:05. Next in was BRIAN WHITE taking first place in the Vet 60 plus category with a year’s best 39:12. [read more]

On Track For Medals

From Berlin to Biggleswade there were some fantastic results for Fairlands Valley Spartans at the weekend. It was three out of three for the Fairlands Valley Spartans trio who tackled 25 laps of the Biggleswade Athletics track in the Hertfordshire 10K track championships. All came away with medals. Sustainable Funding Fair

The Hertfordshire Sustainable Funding Fair provides a great opportunity for voluntary and community groups from across Hertfordshire to come together for the morning to find out about new and existing funding and support services available to groups in Hertfordshire. The Fair is aimed at those who work or volunteer for community groups, charities, voluntary organisations, sports clubs and social enterprises in Hertfordshire. It is FREE to attend but booking is essential to secure your place. The Fair will run from 9.30 am - 2.00 pm.
