Lewis Hamilton

Lewis was born in Stevenage and grew up in the Shephall area attending Peartree Spring Junior before moving onto John Henry Newman School. His first involvement with motor racing was with remote controlled cars and at the age of 7 he was second in the National Championships. From the age of 6 Lewis was into kart racing and by the time he was 15 he had become the European Champion. In addition, he was a talented local footballer with Bedwell Rangers. The Stevenage Sports Council awarded him the Mayors Trophy for Sporting Excellence in the year 2000.
Lewis had been linked with the McLaren Formula One Racing Team from the age of 13 joining their Young Driver Support Programme. He graduated by winning in Formula Three and the GP2 World Championships before in 2007 he achieved a place in one of the Formula One McLaren's.
He has set many records as the best rookie driver ever and so nearly won the drivers World Championship in 2007 gaining 4 grand prix victories, 3 second places and 3 thirds. From 2nd place In 2007 he responded in 2008 by winning 5 races, 2 second and 3 third places to become World Champion. The 2009 season was difficult for Lewis with car problems but he rallied to win 2 grand prix's and take 4 pole positions gaining 5th place in the championship. In 2010 Lewis was joined at McLaren by Jenson Button, the 2009 World Champion. Championships before in 2007 he achieved a place in one of the Formula One McLaren's.
