Doug D'Gama

Doug was born and grew up in the Shephall area of Stevenage and attended Bandley Hill Junior School and then Barnwell Secondary where he played rugby for the school. For many years he enjoyed the martial art of kick-boxing both competing and coaching. He always enjoyed lifting weights as a hobby (at Stevenage Leisure Centre) but didn't take it up competitively until he was 41years old in 2003. He joined the Hitchin & Letchworth Weightlifting Club where his powerlifting days began.

Doug has competed Nationally and Internationally, representing Great Britain in many European and World Championship competitions. Powerlifting involves 3 types of lift, squat, benchpress and deadlift.

His best lifts to date are: Squat 237.5Kg, Bench Press 177.5Kg, Dead Lift 252.5Kg.

His achievements include:

  • British Masters Powerlifting Champion for 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
  • British Masters Powerlifting runner up: 2011.
  • European Masters Powerlifting 3rd 2010, 5th 2011, and 4th 2018.
  • World Masters Powerlifting 9th 2009, 8th 2010, 8th 2016, and 7th 2017.
  • He achieved a bronze medal in 2010 and a silver in 2018 for deadlift, both at the European Championships.
