England Athletics East Region Awards for Club Volunteers

Stevenage and North Herts Athletics

England Athletics U17 and U15 Championships at Bedford over the weekend saw two Stevenage and North Herts A. C. committee members rewarded for their volunteering activities at county, regional and national level.


Receiving the East Region Volunteer of the Year Award, Mick Shortland’s coaching, mentoring, club coaching co-ordinator roles and previous roles on both the regional and national councils were recognised.


Abigail Pickard received the East Region Young Volunteer of Year Award for her coaching, officiating, team managing and committee roles within the Club and her volunteering activities for the Hertfordshire County Athletics Network.


Congratulations also go to North Herts Road Runners who were East Region Club of the Year and Diane Ratcliffe from Dacorum and Tring who received the East Region Services to Athletics Award for her 43 years of volunteering with her Club and for the County.


Competing at the Championships were seven Club athletes. U15 Tyler Wannerton won his heat of the 1500m (4.19.66) and came 4th in the final (4.22.79). U15 Aimee Taylor cam 6th in the pole vault in a new personal best of 2m96. U15 Jessica Astill was 7th in the 300m (41.52) and U17 Nile OdejimiRiley was 7th in the triple jump (13m08). Also competing were U17’s Clare Hudson and Madeleine Waite in the 300m hurdles and Ed Laws in the 400m.
